Hammer Lab seeks an operations lead in NYC to facilitate our work in cancer immunotherapy. An ideal candidate will have an interest in and some knowledge of biomedicine, software development, and data analysis, education in business or operations, and work experience in both engineering/product development and sales/marketing/business development. If you’re organized, outgoing, and love to write, you’ll enjoy the work and be a critical contributor to the success of the lab.
We are a team of 12 software developers and data scientists working to develop novel cancer immunotherapies and to make existing immunotherapies more effective. MIT Technology Review mentioned our work as one of their 10 Breakthrough Technologies of 2016. Our lab is unique in that nearly all of our lab members come from industry rather than academia. We make use of recent developments in programming language theory, distributed data processing, and machine learning, and we strive to make high quality, maintainable software. We are committed to open source software and open and reproducible science.
Our funding comes from a diverse collection of foundations, industry partners, and academic medical centers. The primary focus of the operations position will be on managing our external sources of funding and the progress of the projects they fund. The work will be a mix of business development and project management. You’ll also work with the rest of the lab to maintain our office environment, coordinate our regular lab meetings, recruit and onboard new lab members, and create our annual report. Which is to say: if our lab were a startup, we’d call you the Chief Operating Officer.
If you want to translate scientific research into new cancer therapies, enjoy working in a small team, and can manage and grow a funding base of several million dollars per year, we’d like to hear from you at hammer@hammerlab.org.
